Anti-Corrosive Red Oxide FAQ's

What is anti-corrosive red oxide paint?

Anti-corrosive red oxide paint is a primer that contains red iron oxide and is specifically formulated to prevent rust and corrosion on metal surfaces. It provides a protective barrier against moisture and environmental elements.

Where can I use anti-corrosive red oxide paint?

This paint is typically used on metal surfaces, including structural steel, iron gates, railings, metal roofs, and industrial machinery. It is suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications.

How does anti-corrosive red oxide paint work?

The paint forms a tough, protective layer on the metal surface, preventing moisture and oxygen from coming into contact with the metal, which helps to prevent rust and corrosion.

Do I need to prepare the surface before applying red oxide paint?

Clean the surface to remove dirt, grease, and oil. This should be done using Coo-Var Universal Degreaser.

Remove any existing rust using a mechanical sander or a wire brush.

Can I apply red oxide paint directly to rusty metal?

We do not recommended to paint directly over rust. Rust should be removed and any rust pittinng that can not be removed should be stabalised with Coo-Var Rust Convetor.

How should I apply anti-corrosive red oxide paint?

The paint can be applied using a brush, roller, or spray gun. Apply in thin, even coats and allow 12 hours between coat before applying the next.

How many coats of red oxide paint are needed?

Typically, one to two coats are sufficient for most applications. However, the number of coats may vary depending on the severity of the environment and the level of protection required.

How long does red oxide paint take to dry?

Touch Dry 5 Hours, Hard Dry 24 Hours and Full Hardness 5 - 7 Days.

Can I paint over red oxide primer?

Yes, red oxide primer is designed to be overcoated with a suitable topcoat. Ensure the primer is left 12 hours before applying the topcoat.

Is red oxide paint suitable for exterior use?

Yes, red oxide paint is suitable for exterior use. It provides excellent protection against weathering and environmental elements.

Is anti-corrosive red oxide paint safe to use?

While safe, it is important to use in well-ventilated areas, and wear appropriate protective gear, such as gloves, masks, and goggles.

What are the advantages of using red oxide paint?

The main advantages include its excellent rust and corrosion resistance, good adhesion to metal surfaces, and the ability to provide a durable base for subsequent topcoats.

Can red oxide paint be used on non-metal surfaces?

Red oxide paint is specifically formulated for metal surfaces and is not recommended for use on non-metal surfaces.

How long does anti-corrosive red oxide paint last?

The longevity of red oxide paint depends on the environmental conditions and the quality of the paint. Properly applied, it can provide long-lasting protection, often several years, especially when used with an appropriate topcoat.

What is the difference between red oxide primer and other primers?

Red oxide primer specifically contains red iron oxide, which provides excellent rust-inhibiting properties. Other primers may be formulated for different substrates and purposes.
