Acrylic Floor Paint to time hop back to Bedford High Streets long-lost bank vault

Acrylic Floor Paint Mural

Julian Beever is known all over the world for his pavement drawings, more especially his 3D illusions, drawn in a special distortion to create an impression of 3D when seen from one viewpoint.

Placed on a street in Bedford where a bank used to stand the image refers to a local urban myth that is a hidden treasure in the lost vault beneath the site, and the artwork includes images of shoppers and workers who would have used the bank that once served the high street businesses.

The installation was part of Historic England’s £95m High Street Heritage Action Zone campaign to revive England’s more traditional shopping centres.

Situation

Blank Walls who are Perth & London based mural creators with a passion for street art culture got in touch with us about commissioning Julian Beever to create a 3D floor mural and that they needed a strong durable floor paint, that’s easy to work with and built to last.

Execution

Carefully selected colours were chosen by Julian to enable the 3D artwork to come to life. To ensure the highest quality finish, for the smoothest application and the most variety of colours Coo-Var Acrylic Floor Paint was used. Acrylic Floor Paint can be applied directly to tarmac so this also made the application process straight forward. After the mural was completed one coat of Coo-Var Acrylic Glaze for floors was applied over the top. This added additional protection from UV and wear and tear.

Outcome

“There has been so much enthusiasm from the public as they walked by, and they were genuinely interested in finding out more” BCA’s programme producer Ami Aubrey told the Bedford Independent. “This is what we want to achieve, engagement with the public.”
