Hull Community Skatepark Transformation

Hull Community Skatepark Transformation

When Hull based creator Friends of Every Street and Hull city council set out to transform a local skatepark in Hull, the aim was simple: create a vibrant, welcoming space that reflected the community it serves. Through a creative design and the right coating system, a tired concrete surface was transformed into a colourful focal point for local skaters and residents alike.

This project was a true community effort, with support from Hull City Council's Derringham Ward Councillors, ideas and inspiration coming from pupils at Wold Primary School, and valuable input from the people who use the skatepark every day.

The project was also supported by the East Riding Youth Justice Team, helping to bring together local organisations, young people and the wider community to create a space that reflects those who use it most.

The result is more than just a colourful skatepark. It's a community-led transformation designed by local people, for local people.

We're proud to have supplied the coatings used throughout the project, helping bring this community-led vision to life.

The Challenge

As with any exterior concrete surface, proper preparation was essential to ensure long-term adhesion and performance. The existing substrate needed to be thoroughly prepared before any coatings could be applied, while the finished system also needed to deliver:

  • Excellent adhesion to concrete
  • A durable finish for regular foot traffic
  • Enhanced slip resistance
  • Bright, vibrant colours
  • A matt, non-reflective appearance

The Solution

The concrete was first prepared using Acid Etch, creating a suitable surface profile and removing contaminants to promote strong coating adhesion.

Once preparation was complete, Acrylic Anti-Slip Floor Paint White was applied as the base coating system. This provided a durable, slip-resistant foundation before additional coats were applied in a range of colours to create the striking artwork and geometric design across the skatepark.

The coating system delivered a tough, matt finish that not only looks fantastic but is also designed to withstand the demands of a busy community space.

Products Used

  • Acid Etch
  • Acrylic Anti-Slip Floor Paint White
  • Acrylic Anti-Slip Floor Paint (various colours

    The Result

The completed skatepark is a fantastic example of how specialist coatings can be used far beyond traditional industrial applications. The colourful design has transformed the space into an engaging community asset, creating a brighter and more inviting environment for local users.

Projects like this demonstrate that paint can do much more than protect a surface. It can help revitalise spaces, encourage community engagement, and bring creative ideas to life.

We're delighted to have played a small part in such a positive local project and look forward to seeing the skatepark enjoyed for years to come.
