How to Apply Coo-Var Anti-Damp Paint: A Step-by-Step Guide
Damp, staining and peeling paint can make interior walls and ceilings difficult to decorate. Coo-Var Anti-Damp Paint is a specialist, low-odour, resin-based coating designed to help control moisture release and reduce damp-related discolouration.
Suitable for surfaces including plaster, cement and stone, it can be overcoated with conventional decorative paints once fully dry.
Before You Start
Anti-Damp Paint will not fix the underlying cause of damp. Always investigate and address leaks, water ingress, plumbing issues or other sources of moisture before painting.

Step 1: Prepare the Surface
Remove all loose, flaking or peeling paint and sand the edges of existing sound paint to create a smooth transition.
Clean the surface thoroughly and remove dust and debris. Fill any cracks or holes with a suitable filler and allow them to dry.
If mould or mildew is present, clean and treat the affected area before painting with Fluxaf Power Clean or Fluxaf Mould and Mildew Remover. Do not simply paint over mould.
Step 2: Apply Coo-Var Anti-Damp Paint
Stir the paint thoroughly before use.
Apply an even coat using a brush, roller or spray, ensuring consistent coverage. The estimated coverage is approximately 9m² per litre, although this can vary depending on the surface and application method.
For optimal protection, two coats are typically recommended. Allow sufficient drying time between coats.
Step 3: Allow to Dry
Coo-Var Anti-Damp Paint is approximately:
- Touch dry: 2 hours
- Hard dry: 8 hours
- Overcoat: 12 hours or overnight
Drying times can vary depending on temperature, humidity, ventilation and the condition of the surface.
Step 4: Decorate
Once the Anti-Damp Paint has reached the recommended overcoat time, apply a compatible conventional decorative paint to achieve your desired finish.
