FAQs

What is PolyGuard PU Floor Paint?

It is a specialist two-pack polyurethane topcoat floor paint, designed for high performance applications which does not fade or yellow if exposed to UV light as it is UV and chemically resistant, as well as being very durable/hard wearing.

How does PolyGuard PU Floor Paint work?

It works through a chemical curing reaction that creates a very tough, chemical-resistant coating once the Base and Activator/Hardener are mixed.

How many coats of PolyGuard PU Floor Paint do I need?

As a general paint recommendation, we state two coats for an
effective system.

Do I need to prime the surface before applying PolyGuard
PU Floor Paint?

We recommend priming bare concrete, wood, GRP and plaster
with our Coo-Var Pro-Seal High Performance Primer or Coo-Var Dampshield Primer.

For Metal, Prime with Coo-Var Zinc Phosphate Primer.

Can I use PolyGuard PU Floor Paint on any surface?

We recommend using this on any of its suitable surfaces:

- Concrete

- Wood

- Plaster

- GRP

- Metal

Is PolyGuard PU Floor Paint safe to use?

Although it is safe to use, we recommend its application be
carried out by an experienced/professional painted due to the isocyanates, which can be quite harmful if breathed in.

Can PolyGuard PU Floor Paint be applied over previously
painted surfaces?

Given the appropriate preparation steps are taken to the
surface, this can be applied over previously painted surfaces provided they are also 2PK coatings; 2PK paints cannot go over previously painted single-pack coatings.

Can I repaint over PolyGuard PU Floor Paint?

Yes, but only 2PK products would be compatible.

Does PolyGuard PU Floor Paint come in different colours?

It comes in a clear option by default, but can be tinted to most RAL, BS or NCS colour codes.

How long does PolyGuard PU Floor Paint take to dry?

It has a hard dry of 16-24 hours where it can be walked on
without footwear, however we recommend giving it a full cure time of 5-7 days before exposing it to heavy foot traffic.

Its minimum overcoating time is 16 hours.

Maintenance required?

We advise on regular sweeping and mopping with a
non-abrasive cleaner to keep the floor looking good. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaning tools, as these can damage the coating. Additionally, promptly clean up any spills (as and when) to prevent staining.
